Thanks for the link! I’m considering it, but I figger it might end up more a distraction than productive. Then again, I might get something surprising out of the effort, so I may well go for it.

There is a contest that starts on Friday called script frenzy. Same as nanowrimo

Your post gave me an inkling of insight into my own work habits. I’m far more productive when competing with others. I am such a competitive person, I’ve been known to come to blows over pool-games, Warhammer 40K, even Connect4. One day I will go to jail when a game of Scruples goes horribly wrong. People will say, “She didn’t have too many scruples, eh?”

I think in many ways thats why I’ve felt so at a loss recently. I lost my main competition (right around the time of that hissy-fit I had). When I was writing with my ex-husband, I not only had a number 1 fan who worshipped my writing as godlike, but I also had a competitor. I wanted to out-think him, out-work him, out-create him. I want to write better, write more, and come up with the best ideas.

Remember the blogathon? I had to finish – I couldn’t bear to lose, no matter how tired I was. And nanowrimo got me really pumped. Its too bad those things aren’t running 365 days out of the year. They’d really get my ass in gear.

I’m very lucky that I still have my ‘rough muse’, but some days it takes more than an abrasive and rude homunculus to get me writin’. I really need to find more ways to motivate myself.

Anyway, sorry for the long rambling comment, and thanks for the insight!
